Frequently Asked Questions What is the goal of the Jr Jaguars Football Program? The Junior Jaguar organization has one simple goal, to prepare our athletes for the transition to Fort Zumwalt West High School football by teaching fundamentals specific to the high school program. We accomplish this by closely modeling our program to the high school program at an age appropriate level. If your athlete is interested in playing high school football for Zumwalt West, our goal is to help them achieve this. How are you different from other programs in the area?Although most programs exist to teach basic fundamental football, we are different in that we tailor our program specifically to prepare our athletes for their next level, during their Zumwalt West High School years, and we measure our success in the number of student athletes that have completed our program and move on to successful careers at West High. What grade/age teams do you offer? We have teams from 4th thru 8th grade What are your registration fees? Our 2009 registration cost is $210.00 per player, we also require a $200.00 equipment deposit in the form of a check. This check is returned upon return of equipment. Are you a “for profit” organization? No. We are an all volunteer, not for profit organization. Beyond the registration fees, what else do I need for my athlete to play?Your athlete will be provided with all equipment necessary to participate, other than an athletic cup, cleats, and game socks. We will also need a copy of insurance, birth certificate, and a current physical, plus a deposit check of $200.00 that we hold until equipment is returned What is the equipment deposit for?Your equipment deposit is held until our equipment is returned. If equipment is not returned, the deposit is cashed and the equipment is replaced Are you part of a league?Yes, we are part of the Suburban West Football league, which is made up of other teams with our same goals for their schools Are you part of the High School? No, the staff at West High is not a part of the program, but actively mentors our volunteers and is critical to our success. The partnership is a win/win for both parties as our goal is to provide them quality, well coached football players that are already exposed to many aspects of their football program. We do however, represent our High School and hold our athletes and coaches to the same standard of conduct that is expected of the High School staff and students. Do you have fundraisers and are they mandatory?Yes, we do have fundraisers, but mandatory fundraisers are not typically allowed as part of our organization. Our registration fees are set, and that is all we require you to pay. If you believe in the program and would like to help with its success, we would encourage you to participate in one or more of the following types of fundraisers:
Do you have tryouts? No, we welcome anyone that shares our goal and is interested in playing football for West High Do you close your rosters? No, but we are constantly growing, and may have to put your athlete on a waiting list simply because we do not have equipment for them. Our game jersey’s can be 6 weeks or more to arrive, so we encourage you to sign up at our registration so this is not an issue. Once equipment becomes available, anyone on our waiting lists is welcome to pay their registration fees and participate
My child is out of district, can he play for you?No, our league rules state that players 6th – 8th grade must be in district. If your athlete will not attend Zumwalt West high, we have links to other programs in the Suburban West league on our website. Because of the goals for the programs, your athlete will benefit more being a part of his own high school feeder team. My child is in 4th/5th grade and our school’s program does not offer a team, can he play for the Jr Jags?Yes, we will accept out of district 4th and 5th graders if there is no other option for them. They will be asked to move back to their future high schools feeder team in their 6th grade year. Where do you play/practice?Our home games are currently at Boulevard Park in Lake St Louis, and we have away games at the other schools sites. The Suburban West website has details regarding the other schools in the league and their locations. Our main practice facility is the High School practice field until mid to late September, when we move to Westhoff park where there is proper lighting. We have several alternate practice areas as well Who are your coaches? Our coaches are volunteer parents I would like to coach, what do I need to do?If you are interested in coaching, you can contact the Program Coordinators to obtain a coaching application. These will be reviewed by the coaching coordinator and selections will ultimately be made by the Head Coach of the existing team. The Head Coaches typically stay with their team throughout the program until they become freshmen. If you are interested in becoming a 4th grade head coach for 2010, you should contact the Program Coordinators. I would like to volunteer for something, who would I talk to?Typically at registration we will have sign up sheets for volunteers. After that, there is email contact information on the website, http://www.jrjags.com/ or you are welcome to speak to your team mom. How do I know if practice is changed/cancelled?We offer a sports hotline that you should call every day during the season, and scheduling change notifications will be communicated this way. Do you have a playoff/superbowl?No. We focus on preparing athletes to play for Zumwalt West at the High School level. Our program is designed to be a multi-year experience, with the ultimate payoff being a successful High School experience. What is a cross-over game? The Suburban West league is divided into two divisions. Our cross-over game is an opportunity for teams from both divisions to compete with an opponent based on their record in the first 7 games, pairing like opponents with like records What is a B game?A B game is simply a game format scrimmage against another team in the Suburban West league. It models a scheduled game in every aspect other than the outcome does not impact the standings. These are important to all our programs as they allow athletes of similar skill level to compete against one another in a live game situation, and allow teams with larger rosters to provide additional playing time for less experienced athletes. We have strict guidelines on who can play in and how much they can participate in a b-game vs. a regular game as outlined in the Suburban West League rules Do I get to keep my Game Jersey?Yes, the game jersey is yours to keep upon completion of the season. If you drop prior to the end of the season, we do ask that you return the Jersey along with any equipment to receive your complete equipment deposit What do I do if my child wants to quit?If your child has decided that they no longer want to participate, you should first let your Head Coach know. He will then direct you on the procedure to return your gear and receive whatever refund is currently available. The refund policy is documented on the current year registration form. |
